TNFRSF19 is one of the members of the TNFreceptorsuperfamily of proteins. It is a type I cell surface receptor protein containing the highly conserved TNFR cysteine-rich motifs in the extracellular domain and a TNF receptor-associated factor (TRAF)-binding sequence in the cytoplasmic domain. TNFRSF19 can mediate activation of c-Jun and NF-kappa-B and promote caspase-independent cell death. In neonatal mice, it is mainly expressed in hair follicles and neuron-like cells in the cerebellum, but not in the skin epidermis. TNFRSF19 can be detected in embryonic brain and epithelium, and at lower levels in adult heart, lung and liver. In addition, TNFRSF19 is the first TNFRSF member that is identified as a biomarker for melanoma.
