Background
REG4 is a small secreted protein that contains a single well conserved Carbohydrate-recognition domain. REG4 is calcium-independent lectin displaying mannose-binding specificity and able to maintain carbohydrate recognition activity in an acidic environment. REG4 expression is significantly upregulated by inflammation and tissue injury associated with active Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis.
