SerpinF2 (or α2-antiplasmin or plasmin inhibitor), is a serine protease inhibitor (serpin) responsible for inactivating plasmin, an important enzyme that participates in fibrinolysis and degradation of various other proteins. The major targets of this inhibitor are plasmin and trypsin, but it also inactivates matriptase-3/TMPRSS7 and chymotrypsin. It is expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma. Defects in SERPINF2 are the cause of alpha-2-plasmin inhibitor deficiency (APLID).
