Background
Human TNF-α (Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha), also termed Cachectin, Cytotoxic Factor (CF), CTX, Hemorrhagic Factor, is mainly secreted by macrophages and can induce cell death of certain tumor cell lines. TNF-α) is an adipokine involved in systemic inflammation and is a member of a group of cytokines that stimulate the acute phase reaction. It is produced chiefly by activated macrophages, although it can be produced by many other cell types such asCD4+ lymphocytes, NK cells, neutrophils, mast cells, eosinophils, and neurons. Under certain conditions it can stimulate cell proliferation and induce cell differentiation.
