Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7, also known as IGF-binding protein 7, IBP-7 and IGFBP-7, is a secreted protein involved in several cellular processes, including proliferation, senescence and apoptosis. The major function of the protein is the regulation of availability of insulin-likegrowthfactors (IGFs) in tissue as well as in modulating IGF binding to its receptors. IGFBPs bind IGFs with high affinity, and regulate IGF availability in body fluids and tissues and modulate IGF binding to its receptors. It binds to IGF-I and IGF-II with a relatively low affinity. IGFBP7 also stimulates prostacyclin production and cell adhesion. Alternatively spliced IGFBP7 transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described, and one variant has been associated with retinal arterial macroaneurysm.
