The 14-kDa phosphohistidine phosphatase (PHP14), also known as PHPT1, was the first histidine phosphatase protein identified in vertebrates and is similar to the janus proteins of Drosophila. PHP14 is a cytoplasm protein, which is highly expressed in HCC tissues and expressed abundantly in heart and skeletal muscle. PHPT1 demonstrates specific phosphatase activity against peptides and proteins containing phosphohistidine. Studies investigating the physiological function of PHP14 have revealed that PHP14 is able to dephosphorylate ATP-citrate lyase and the β-subunit of G proteins in vitro. It has also been suggested that PHP14 plays a role in human lung cancer cell migration and invasion.
