Background
The transmembrane glycoprotein CD82, also known as Kangai (KAI)-1,is a membrane glycoprotein that is a member of transmembrane 4 superfamily. CD82 is lymphoid specific and associates with CD4 or CD8 and delivers costimulatory signals for the TCR/CD3 pathway. Expression of CD82 has been shown to be downregulated in tumor progression of human cancers and can be activated by p53 through a consensus binding sequence in the promoter. The reduced KAI-1 expression may be the result of dysregulated p53 function and could be an important step in the endometrial carcinogenesis.
