Background

Interleukin 13 receptor, alpha 1, also known as IL13RA1 and CD213A1, is a subunit of the interleukin 13 receptor. IL13RA1 forms a receptor complex with IL4 receptor alpha (IL4RA), a subunit shared by IL13 and IL4 receptors. Interleukin 13 possesses two types of receptor: the heterodimer, composed of the IL13RA1 and the IL4RA, transducing the IL13 signals; and the IL13RA2, acting as a nonsignaling "decoy“receptor. IL13RA1 binds tyrosine kinase TYK2 and mediates the signaling processes that lead to the activation of JAK1, STAT3 and STAT6 induced by IL13 and IL4.
