Calcium and integrin-binding family member 2, also known as Kinase-interacting protein 2, KIP-2 and CIB2, is a ubiquitously expressed protein. It is expressed in inner and outer segments of photoreceptor cells, as well as in the pigmented epithelium. In addition, CIB2 is observed in the inner and outer plexiform layers and in the ganglion cell layer. CIB2 is a calcium-binding protein, which is critical for proper photoreceptor cell maintenance and function. It may also play a role in calcium homeostasis and participate in calcium regulation in the mechano transduction process. CIB2 colocalized with ITGA7 at the myotendinous junctions (MTJ) and at the neuromuscular junctions.
