Background
Osteomodulin (OMD), also known as Osteoadherin, is a secreted protein which belongs to the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family and Class II subfamily. It is present in the extracellular matrix of bone and other mineralized tissues. In bone matrix, OSAD is localized into cement lines and mineralizing fronts, being absent into the mineralized cartilage that remain at the center of the bone trabeculae. It has a function in binding of osteoblasts via the alpha (V) beta (3)-integrin. It may be implicated in biomineralization processes.
