Immunogen
A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of mouse VCAM1(653-671aa YTIRQAQLQDAGIYECESK), different from the related human sequence by three amino acids, and from the related rat sequence by two amino acids.

Storage	At -20 °C for 12 months, as supplied. Store reconstituted antibody at 2-8 °C for one month. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20 °C. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.

Function	Important in cell-cell recognition. Appears to function in leukocyte-endothelial cell adhesion. Interacts with integrin alpha-4/beta-1 (ITGA4/ITGB1) on leukocytes, and mediates both adhesion and signal transduction. The VCAM1/ITGA4/ITGB1 interaction may play a pathophysiologic role both in immune responses and in leukocyte emigration to sites of inflammation.
Tissue Specificity	Expressed on inflamed vascular endothelium, as well as on macrophage-like and dendritic cell types in both normal and inflamed tissue. Expressed in the bone marrow.
