Background
Macrophage inflammatory protein-3β (MIP3β), also known as chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 19 (CCL19), EBI1 ligand chemokine (ELC ), is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family. MIP3β is synthesized as a 98 amino acid (aa) residue precursor protein containing a predicted 21 aa residue signal peptide and a 77 aa residue mature protein. MIP3β is constitutively expressed in various lymphoid tissues including thymus, lymph nodes, appendix and spleen. MIP3β is a unique ligand for the chemokine receptor CKR7. MIP3β plays a role in normal lymphocyte recirculation and homing, trafficking of T cells in thymus, and in migration of T cell and B cell to secondary lymphoid organs.
